Over the years, we have built up a wealth of knowledge and awareness of the needs of the artist, hobbyist, beginner and student of creative studies. Our staff are all practising artists, illustrators, graphic designers or students of art and design. Between us we work hard to supply our customers with exactly what they need, at a price they want to pay. We understand that everyone has different needs and different budgets. Our product ranges reflect this and we are proud to be Oxfordshire's No 1 Art and Craft Shop. Broad Canvas is more than just an art and craft supplies shop however. We are working hard to support your creativity whenever and however we can. We provide you with the materials, technical advice, project ideas and support required for you to create and enjoy your creativity. You can rely on us; an independent art and craft supplies shop with years of experience and a wealth of knowledge.
Ever since I was a toddler and could hold a crayon or brush, I've been painting and drawing aided by family that have been involved in the production of paint for artists. I've a passion for drawing and painting in a variety of media, especially oil painting and drawing. I also enjoy using coloured pencils, watercolour inks and gouache.
When not in store I can be found teaching privately, I'm especially fond of life drawing and believe with encouragement that anyone can draw and paint. I can often be found wondering the countryside with my camera and sketchbook, I'm drawn to wild places, lakes and woods.
I've used most of the products we sell, so please feel free to ask me about anything.
Molly joined our team after graduating from Winchester School of Art studying within the Fine Arts department with a specialism in painting and sculpture. After completing her Degree, Molly developed a passion for ceramics to which she dedicates her spare time creating pottery at her home studio in Oxfordshire. Her favourite products to use are the Old Holland oil paints and our Handbook Journals.
You can follow Molly's Instagram where she posts updates of her current work and Etsy shop updates.

I've worked for the Broad Canvas for quite a few years and enjoy helping customers with their artistic needs.
I'm a practicing artist and also teach at Sunningwell School of Art.
I use a variety of different mediums, especially chalk pastels, gouache, inks and oil paints.
Broad Canvas is great value to the local community and I'm proud to be part of it.
Peter manages the Broad Canvas and he's been here pretty much since the shop opened. He grew up near Oxford and has always loved art and drawing. There isn't much he doesn't know and he's our resident expert.
In his spare time, Peter is a keen cyclist and loves exploring the countryside near where he lives on his beloved bike. His other passions are a fine glass of red wine and taking photos of nature and wildlife.
Peter started earning money from his art at an early age, selling drawings of pop stars to his schoolmates. After studying at Shrewsbury College and North Wales College of Art he began work for Trinity Mirror in Chester where he churned out graphics, courtroom sketches and topical cartoons for over 20 newspaper titles a week. Moving to Oxford in 2000, he worked for a couple of marketing agencies, creating artwork and copywriting for companies such as Volvo, British Gas, the NHS and Virgin.
In 2007 he set up "Peter Bellingham Illustration" which supplies original images, animations, storyboards and design services to businesses and authors worldwide. His favourite product is the Pentel Brush Pen, closely followed by Posca Pens which he uses to draw on shop windows, walls, blackboards and even pub fridges.

Syrie grew up and went to school in Oxford. She started working at Broad Canvas on a Saturday and has helped us out ever since, fitting shifts in around her studies. Her foundation at Oxford Brookes was followed by a course studying design at Westminster to purse a love of fashion.
She's designed an outfit for Fenty, which presented to Rihanna at a runway show (it was recently used in an exclusive shoot for KaltBlut magazine). She's also interned for the likes of Justine Tabak, Ashley Williams and Art School. When the pandemic struck, she made scrubs for the NHS (not as easy as sounds) - all great experience for her debut collection. We're delighted to have Syrie back working with us, and she gets to make full use of the Rotring Tikkys and the NeoColour 2s while figuring out her next move.
