Golden Acrylic Ground for Pastels
Golden Pastel Ground is a medium designed to prepare surfaces for the application of pastels, charcoal and other art media where a coarse tooth is desired. It contains finely ground sand in a pure acrylic emulsion. Golden Pastel Ground can be applied to paper, canvas, wood or any primed support. This allows almost limitless applications for media typically confined to standard papers.
The textural quality of Pastel Ground is similar to other Golden Gels like their Pumice Gels. The grit size is somewhere between Fine and Coarse Pumice Gels. You can blend Golden Acrylic Paints with Golden Pastel Ground, to achieve colored grounds – however, add minimal amounts of the color since all additions of paint will decrease the tooth of the ground.
Pastel Ground can be used with a variety of different media including: Soft Pastels, Water-Soluble Pastels, Oil Pastels, Graphite Pencils, Coloured Pencils, Oil Sticks, Coloured Chalks, Pastel Pencils, Paint Sticks, Charcoal, Wax Crayons, Ink Sticks, Powdered Charcoal, Watercolor Pencils, Pigment Stick, Acrylic Paints and Oil Paints.
Patti Brady prepares a surface for drawing using Acrylic Ground for Pastel and a little color. This simple mixed media project is just one of the many ways these products can be used. As you try the project along with Patty, remember to stay loose, focus on playing with the materials rather than getting a perfectly finished artwork, and you learn much more about each material.
