Fast drying oil paint, produced using the best quality materials, which are ideal for thicker impasto techniques and also underpainting. Available in 48 colours.
With the popularity of acrylic colours due to their quicker drying time (around 10-20 minutes), oil painters requested a paint that dried much faster than traditional oil colours. So in 1976 Winsor & Newton created a new range of alkyd colours, which today is called Griffin Alkyd Fast Drying Oil Colour. Alkyds are made from a natural, polymerized, vegetable oil, giving the paint a resin-like texture. When this is mixed with a solvent, it is similar to using linseed oil. The paint remains workable for between 4-8 hours. They will be touch dry in around 18-24. This quick drying time means you can quickly underpaint and then get back to your artwork much quicker. They can be mixed with traditional oil colours but because of the faster drying time, they cannot be laid on top of them.
The three primary colours within the Winsor and Newton Griffin Alkyd Fast Drying Oil Colour range are Winsor Lemon, Phthalo Blue and Permanent Rose. For a six colour mixing system you can use Winsor Lemon, Winsor Yellow, French Ultramarine, Phthalo Blue, Permanent Rose and Winsor Red.
Great for use on canvas, wood, glass, metal, porcelain, art boards and canvas papers. As the paint resin dries to hard film, the paints are water-resistant and weather proof. Clean your brushes and palettes with white spirit or specialist brush cleaner. You can still use standard oil colour painting mediums with the Griffin Fast Drying Oil Colours.
