About the artist

Hello my name is Kay . I I can proudly say that I am a Broad Canvas ambassador , promoting this independent art shop in the centre of Oxford. A treasure trove for anyone with an arty inclination , young or old . It’s so VERY easy to fill up your basket within minutes of being there! Friendly faces and helpful advice from staff around the shop - over all 3 floors!! I have always been ‘arty’ but it wasn’t until I was presented with an opportunity over 20 years ago to design and make a stained glass window in the Littlemore hospital that I was able to fulfil that desire to work as an artist . I went on to design and make windows at the Warneford hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford . I also worked to commission designing and creating windows for private residences. Unfortunately circumstances arose whereby I had to shelve this creative way of life. BUT circumstances have turned full circle and I am once again able to jump in and be fulfilled as an artist once again ….I am happy beyond happy ! During the pandemic I’ve been quite poorly but when able ,I’ve put pen to paper ,brush to canvas and I’ve drawn and painted ‘til the cows come home’! I have been posting regularly on Instagram and in a way my art has been a form of communication beyond my home in a time of isolation during lockdown. My work is abstract and intuitive . I like to express movement ithrough line and shape. It is a joy that people interpret my work in many different ways - a springboard for the imagination. I am now beginning to slowly get back into glasswork - working with stained glass is quite physical which has meant I haven’t been able to create a lot but I am beginning to now…onward and upward ! I am so excited by the many possibilities and avenues opening up to me day by day .. I am exhibiting at my home studio in Abingdon during Oxfordshire Artweeks in May … It would be great if you were able to pop along and say hello and see what I’ve been creating and making. You can keep up with my creative journey on Instagram: @kaygibbons_art.glass.sculpture I hope you enjoy what you see !! A website is on its way!
