Rollright Gold

About the artist

Living close to Oxford and London, my work is influenced by both the ancient countryside and the future-focused experiences of a vibrant, global city. I want to alter people’s perceptions – subtly changing mindsets through art – and bringing some of the ‘unseen’ into reality. I took a BA in Graphic Design, Illustration and New Media, which was a platform to try new and adventurous combinations of media styles, both physical and digital. Subsequent studies in ancient civilisations and esoteric literature means I can’t help but add a mystical twist to my work. In 2012 and 2013 I was selected as a category finalist in the prestigious Lumen Prize art and technology competition. I was immensely proud to see my works tour the globe with galleries in London, NYC, Shanghai & Hong Kong. It was also fantastic to meet other artists from around the world. In my other life, I create graphic design for some of the world’s most recognisable companies, produce award-winning conceptual DJ mixes and publish novels and real treasure hunt books via my Firesnake Books imprint.

Rollright Gold

Description of artwork

Given away as a prize for a treasure hunt book I produced, this piece on wood depicts the ancient Rollright Stones as viewed, simultaneously from both inside the circle and above it. Created using gesso on 2ftx2ft OSB board for added texture. I then spray-painted with Montana Gold (Shock Black). I wanted to represent the sun using golden leaf which was applied to FIMO size using a Da Vinci sable brush for detail. I’m really impressed with how the sunlight catches the gold throughout the day... light within the void.
